I’m Kayla—Charleston-based photographer, mama of two busy boys, and the gal behind the camera at Vaughters Photography. Whether you’re here to book a session or just curious about the person snapping the photos, I’m so glad you’ve stopped by!


Before I started my photography journey, I was a kindergarten teacher and I always had a camera on my snapping away. After my oldest son was born, my love for capturing little everyday moments turned into something more. What started with snapping photos of my own kids (and bribing them for smiles!) grew into a full-on love affair with family photography—and eventually, Vaughters Photography was born.

Why Motherhood Photography?


Well, because I'm a mom and I get it. Motherhood changed me in ways I never expected. It’s messy, beautiful, and all-consuming, and it deserves to be remembered in every stage—from bump to baby, to missing teeth, awkward tweens, and beyond.

I believe your photos should reflect you—the laughter, the chaos, and the love that make your family unique. I like to incorporate play into every session: tossing your toddler in the air, cracking a corny dad joke for your tweens, or (my favorite) asking Dad and Mom-to-be to compare baby bumps.

My goal is simple: to capture your family, the tiny details that change too fast, and the love that knows no bounds.

A Little About My Life Beyond the Camera


When I’m not editing photos or figuring out how to get a toddler grinning, you’ll probably find me cheering on my boys at the ball field, sipping a vanilla latte from Ra, or planning our next family adventure (we love to travel!). Our cat Remi, who’s been with us for over 15 years, keeps an eye on our newest addition (her archnemesis) —a spunky little Cavapoo named Rowan, who’s convinced he runs the house.


My family is my heart and the reason behind everything I do. My boys are growing faster than I can keep up with, and sometimes my husband and I find ourselves lost in old photos—their toothless smiles, their round little faces— giving way to the unmistakable look of growing boys.
