Magical Beach Sessions

In the field of photography, the importance of timing and lighting cannot be overstated. Both seasoned photographers and hobbyists understand that achieving the perfect shot often hinges on optimal lighting conditions. While each time of day offers its own unique qualities, many photographers are drawn to the period just before sunset, known as the "golden hour." During the golden hour, the sun casts a warm and gentle light that enhances the beauty of any subject. This time is favored by photographers as it provides a soft and flattering illumination, avoiding the harsh glare that can cause subjects to squint or appear less than their best.

As the sun starts to set, the sky lights up with all sorts of beautiful colors - from bright oranges and pinks to soft pastels. These amazing colors make the perfect background for your beach photoshoot, giving your pictures a lot of depth and drama. Whether you're taking wide shots of the landscape or up-close portraits, the sunset sky provides tons of inspiration and creativity with its constantly changing colors.

Another practical advantage of booking your beach photography session close to sunset is the opportunity to avoid the crowds. As the day draws to a close, many beachgoers begin to pack up and head home, leaving the shoreline relatively empty and serene. This allows you to capture more intimate and candid moments without the distraction of crowds in the background, resulting in images that feel more authentic.

Preparing for your beach session

In preparation for the photo session at the beach, it is recommended to arrive approximately 20 minutes before sunset to take advantage of the flattering natural light. Bug spray should be brought along as insects are commonly found at beach locations. A small towel should also be packed for personal comfort, to wipe away any sweat, sand, or water during the shoot. If children are attending, snacks and water should be included to keep them nourished and hydrated. Please be aware that there may be parking fees at Folly Beach Washout, so plan accordingly. Attire should consist of light, neutral colors that complement the beach environment. It is suggested that outfits within the group are coordinated rather than matching, to allow each individual's personality to shine through in the photographs. Following these preparations will ensure that beautiful memories are captured during the session.
